Below are some common questions and answers. If you have a specific question not addressed here, feel free to contact me.
I provide both in-person and telehealth options. Together, we can decide what works best for your particular situation.
My fee is $250 for a 50-minute session. Subsequent sessions with more than one parent are typically 60 minutes, which I prorate. I bill at a prorated amount based on my hourly rate for time spent on collaborative care (including professional consolations, written reports, court ordered appearances, visit to schools and treatment centers.)
While I don't accept insurance, I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement if you request it.
Mindfulness is a practice that focuses on the present moment: the here and now; somatic comes from the Greek word, “Soma,” which translates to body. I work from an integrative approach, connecting the mind and body, bringing awareness to thoughts, patterns and behaviors. Mindfulness and somatic experience focuses on strengthening one’s capacity to heal from body stored trauma through the practice of self-awareness and self-compassion. Together, we may incorporate mindfulness and somatic work through breathwork, body scans and meditation. When working with children, I help them bring awareness to sensations in the body, understand and verbalize their feelings, and meet those feelings with compassion.
Play therapy is a method of working with children through verbal and non-verbal play in order to access unconscious feelings and promote healthy brain development. It is a well-regarded method that engages children on a developmentally appropriate level. Play therapy allows children a feeling of safety as they invite adults into their own psyche. It is known that children will show resilience and a capacity for self-development and healing if they are met with unconditional love and a supportive environment.
Play therapy is unique in that it reduces feelings of stress and creates psychological distance from challenges. Play therapy can be used as treatment in assisting emotional regulation and creates the opportunity to heal through role-play, problem solving, and expressing interest.
Through play, I create healthy attunement, alliance, and relationship in order to foster growth. I hold deep empathy, genuine regard, and unconditional acceptance in order to remain present in exploring a child’s unique experience.
When seeking out a therapist, finding the right fit is crucial. As a beginning step, I offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we might be a compatible match. You can contact me by sending an email to sarahtlipshy@gmail.com or by calling me at 323-366-0905.

If you need to miss a session, please let me know as far in advance as possible. If you cancel within a 24-hour period before your session start time, you will be responsible for that session fee. Your weekly appointment time is reserved for you, and I will make every effort to honor that time consistently, so that you can rely on my availability to you. You are asked to make a similar commitment to our time. If your schedule does not allow you to keep your appointment time regularly (i.e., due to multiple vacations, camp or other extracurriculars, or out-of-town work), please discuss this with me in advance. I may not be able to guarantee holding that appointment time open for you on your return, but I will do my best to offer you another appointment. Finally, it is important to note that insurance companies do not normally reimburse for missed sessions.
I work with clients on a weekly basis. Just like an athlete going to the gym, results come to those who are consistent. Weekly sessions create stability, trust, emotional safety, and an hour a week that’s dedicated just for you and your well-being. Together, I look forward to co-creating a therapeutic experience that feels positive and impactful.
While email and texting are convenient ways to communicate about business-related aspects of psychotherapy, i.e., confirming, changing, or canceling appointments, please schedule an appointment to discuss clinical matters.
Parental involvement is a critical aspect of my approach. In the beginning stages of therapy, I require at least one hour-long parent session a month. As treatment continues, we re-evaluate based on family need whether parental involvement should increase or decrease. No one knows their child better than a parent, and I believe that when a therapist and parent/s come together, meaningful change can take place in a child’s life.
